Glimpse into the life of a "race wife".

I love being a racers wife. However, there is alot that comes with it besides wearing a shirt with your husbands name on it.

  • Race season is April-October. 6 months! I think thats the longest "season" ever! Therefore you can pretty much count every Saturday off limits for a date night.
  • The week of a race every night is consumed with something, whether it be practicing or working on the car.
  • A racers family is very poor during these months. People underestimate how expensive the sport really is. We luckily have sponsorship. :)
  • You can bet you will see 15 transactions at your bank for Advance Auto during race season.
  • Wednesdays you must wash the drivers suit (it takes 3 days to air dry).
  • Must make sure the teams shirts are washed, air dryed, fluffed, and ironed.
  • Saturday morning pack 9 sandwiches for the team. All different depending on what they want that day. Make sure have drinks, snacks, etc.
  • If attending race, must find sitter.
  • Saturday morning make a biscuit run to Hardees for the team.
  • Be prepared to spend all Saturday alone. The team leaves at 8:30am and doesn't return until 11pm.
  • Saturdays you are a nervous wreck, one wrong move and the car could be in flames, or upside down, with your spouse in it.
  • Your kids will be decked out with racing gear, ugh.
  • Your home will be a disaster from Wed-Saturday with race gear, shirts drying, drivers suit layed out across the table to dry, extra food, etc.

This is a breakdown of the life of a racers wife. It is stressful, it is expensive, and it is never ending, even in off season they are working on the car preparing for the next season. Zach is in the lead for Rookie of the Year at Motormile Speedway because this will be his first season running all year long. Past years he got into wrecks and was done for the season. One more race to go! He hopes to get out of the race car by the time Cohen and/or Cale are old enough to learn to drive (racing can start as early as 8), then he be the crew chief/owner of Harris Motorsports. His dream is to make Harris Motorsports continue to our children. What a wreck I will be! But to see the look on his face before and after a race, or at the mention of Cohen or Caleb racing you can tell its a passion of his. I will never take that away from him.

Love,

#64's wife.

Cohens go kart, and race suit!

#64! Mod 4 Division

9 Sandwiches!

Products needed to feed 3 hungry boys all day.
(not including snacks, drinks, etc)

Zachs "to do"

Zach has officially been out of town 6 days of the week. I must say I enjoy alone time, but not this much! I find dinner time to be the loneliest so I have been keeping Cohen and I very busy in the day so we can come home and just enjoy it! I try to keep a list of stuff I want to tell Zach when he gets home b/c everytime we talk, its a rushed converstation. Here is my list so far so I dont forget:

-We need to practice our song for Choir that we will be singing Sunday.
-Cohen pee peed in his laundry basket thinking it was the potty
-Cohen sliced his toe open, luckily I ran him into the bathtub and made him sit for 30 minutes to stop the bleeding.
-I need him to fix the handle on the side door.
-Free Loader is coming Sept 2nd. So we need to start gathering up all the junk outside to go into it.
-Cohen passes KFC and says "popppawww, and da" because we eat lunch there on sundays after church with Momaw and Popaw. He remembers. Smart Boy.
-Remember to ask off Dec 11 and Dec 12 for Christmas program at church.
-I need him to hang the coat rack with the mirror
-Pour bleach in the well.

I think that concludes my list, not that any one of you on here care but when Zach comes home I can proudly say I made you a list, so what if its on my blog :)

Its been a year!

Wow, its been a year since we started attending WSBC. :) Zach and I began our search for churches last summer and after visiting several ones that didn't work for us, we decided we would "try" West Salem. I remember how against I was to going there since it was a Baptist Church, I always said I would never "turn" Baptist. We walked in and Eddy greeted us and showed us to the nursery to drop Cohen off who was only 8 months old, still in a car seat carrier, aww. We then made our way to the sanctuary. Marshall Allen greeted us, he and Zach actually knew each other and I remember Marshall said "just wanted to give you a heads up that church is not over at 12, we stay until we are done".

I remember I loved the music and everyone was so nice to us the first time. Zach saw Lisa during the meet and greet part, whom he knew from High School, it felt very comfortable being there. I remember during the service I was amazingly interested! I wasn't bored, my mind didn't wander and I left with a knot in my heart. I felt convicted. I felt that God led us there for a reason. All the previous churches we attended we would leave and I couldn't tell you what we talked about, I either felt all warm and fuzzy or really confused. I don't just know about God anymore, I know God.

We have been going there ever since and made WSBC our new home. :) Since then we have become very involved with Bible Studys, Small Groups, and now Choir. We love it and it is our family. God definitely led us out of our comfort zone. Praise him for that!

I apoligize on behalf on Cohen...

This morning Cohen and I took Daddy to work since he will be working out of town the next few days, we love to take him and drop him off :) Plus I am always out and about around that time anyway running my errands.

After dropping Z off at work Cohen and I were headed back home when all of a sudden I heard a thud and then Cohen saying "bawll, bawll. bawwll." I kept looking back trying to figure out what was going on then realized......

Cohen threw his soccer ball out of the window!!!! Yes, I roll down his window when its nice b/c he throws up his arms and loves the fresh air, little did I know that he rolled it down the rest of the way and threw his soccer ball out on River Road.

I noticed many cars swerving to miss hitting the ball. So for that, I apologize on behalf of my son Cohen for anyone who almost wrecked, or was late to work due to the soccer ball in the middle of the road in 8 oclock morning traffic.

Cohen said bawlll the whole way home and kept pointing out of the window and I told him that he threw it and now it belongs to the ducks that live by the river.

Oh Cohen... life is always so interesting with you by my side :):)
