Thanksgiving 2013

Thanksgiving Eve, Presley got into my finger nail polish. Took it all over the house, and herself.
Her and Caleb loved taking an emergency bath in the sink.

We are so happy Daddy was off this morning so we could enjoy breakfast together!

Maybe he didn't share my excitement? :)

The past week we have been reading Thanksgiving books that we got from the library :)
 





 Our new tradition on Halloween since we don't trick or treat is to make our "blessing tree" since the first day of November is the next morning. This is what we have been doing all of November after our family devotion. Each kid (some nights not all cooperated) would get a leaf and color it and then hang it on our tree. Some of these include: Gods provisions, cows, sheep, firefighters, warm house, God, Jesus, the Cross, Zach, safety of race car drivers, my Bible, the saving blood of Christ, my crib, our church, my sissy, my cars collection, Heaven, and my favorite of Cohens "That God is mighty strong and powerful". 

Plans changed this year as Momaw and Popaw weren't hosting Thanksgiving and Papa Bill had surgery, so we hosted for those that could come :)  It came together perfectly with the help of my mother in law and sister in law :)  And Zach, he was very helpful!

 

This $10 purchase again, is coming in so handy for the kids table!

Happy Thanksgiving Week!! Few Randoms :)

So excited to be part of a homeschool group that participates in school pictures, and there is even rumor we will get a yearbook! So glad my children can share this same experience!

(I had Cohen dressed in a button up, somewhere in the day it came off, and got his picture in Under Armour under shirt. Oh well, perfectly captures Cohen at this phase in his life!)

Glasses #4! So proud of Cohen though because he has not broken one pair. First pair he had 2 years before outgrowing, second pair broke when I was trying to bend them back in place, oops, third pair the screw was warped and causing the lenses to fall out. Pair #4 He chose these! I told him to pose to send daddy a picture, this was his pose. Funny!

PJ girl got to go with us to Cohen's guitar lesson yesterday.

We are having a wonderful thanksgiving week! So excited Zach gets off 4 days!!!

We are taking a break from school this week to focus our hearts on gratitude and enjoy

 each other

Am I really thankful?

Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;

Why is thanksgiving so important?

1. It is a matter of obedience.
God commands us to be a people who give thanks in all things (1 Thess. 5:18)

2. God deserves it.
He is Lord and King, he is creator and Saviour. He is the supreme ruler of all things and simply because of who he is he deserves all our praise. But he is also good and generous and this should prompt us to shower him with thanks for every good gift we have (James 1:17).

3. It changes us.
Learning to live a life of thankfulness will make us more observant of all of the wonders God brings into our lives. This, in turn, will make our love for God grow, which results in us being better prepared to handle those times when we find ourselves in need and in pain.

4. Praise exalts God in the eyes of others.
Its a way to show how beautiful he is as we point to his character and work.

“Whoever offers praise glorifies me” Psalm 50:23

How can we know if we are thankful women?

1. Do we often think of all of God’s mercies and graces in our lives? Is his praise often in our lips? This is a sign of thankful hearts.

2. Is our love for God growing? His generosity toward us should move us from loving his gifts to loving him as Giver.

3. Are we good stewards? Thankfulness leads a woman to be careful with the gifts she has received. A thankful woman is careful with her physical possessions, with her body, and with her family and friends.

4. Are we obedient? The truly thankful understand what it is they have been saved from. This gratitude for the greatest of all gifts leads us to follow Jesus and do as he commands.

5. Are our complaints fading? A thankful heart is less likely to complain in frustrating circumstances or get angry in hard times. It is easy to be thankful when skies are blue and the sun is shining, but it is another story when the storm rolls in. The person who can praise God in the midst of pain, disappointment and hardship has learned thankfulness.

I am convicted as I think about these things. Thankfulness is not something that just grows in my life. It must be cultivated by joyful awareness of all that God is and has done for us. We must persist in being thankful.

When we can see no reason for praise—we must believe in the divine love and goodness, and sing in the darkness.

God calls us to be thankful because it is right. It is right to praise our God but it is also for our benefit. A thankful heart cannot lose. It makes our bright days brighter and our hard days easier to handle. It lifts our countenance towards heaven and from there comes our hope, our joy, our salvation, and our eternal home.

A day in the life of... Caleb's THIRD birthday!

Birthday boy went to Tot School at Mrs. Shannons and to see his buddies, so Co and I came home and finished school work.

We were practicing writing sight words, and then Cohen drew this. I knew daddy would be proud.

We went and got Caleb from "school" came home enjoyed lunch and naps, and then Momaw came and got Caleb for a special date! To McDonalds and Dollar Tree. What a fun surprise!!

He was so excited.

 And Cohen tried to go too..

but he will have to wait until January :)

When Caleb got back from his date with Momaw we had a special friend waiting on him.

I know he has had the best couple of days celebrating with family parties, chuck e cheese, the phone calls, the singing, and the birthday hugs. We too have enjoyed celebrating what the Lord has given us.

Sometimes the best blog posts are just random pictures from the phone. They are the true life, everyday, randomness. I love it.

Everynight before PJ goes down the boys go and pray over her. Cohen's prayer is the cutest "Lord, please watch over sis, Presley Jean, keep her safe, we just love her Lord, Amen".

This night, Caleb chose to "read" to her out of her bible instead.

This kid here, is so proud of some of the things he does he will ask me to take his picture. Like him stacking his books smallest to largest.

Or the leaf pile he raked.

This girl's hair is getting so long (in the back!) that she can wear mini braided pigtails. We had just gotten ready, the boys were in the bath. Two minutes after this picture was taken she got in the bath, with her clothes on.
