Caleb- 4 months!

Caleb just turned 4 months old! (well like 10 days ago, sorry for the delay) but we had his four month checkup on Tuesday and Dr. Meyer said he is growing well : )

He is in the 25 percentile for weight (14.1 lbs)
75 percentile for height
and 75 percentile for head circumference (aka, he has a big head and little body) we love him that way ;)

We started him on fruit and he loves it!!


We love our growing boy :)

O' Henry Bars!

This recipe is so delish! And... oh so fattening : ) Yum!

1 c. sugar
1 c. Karo syrup
2 c. peanut butter
5 c. Rice Krispies
6 oz. chocolate chips (1/2 bag)
6 oz. butterscotch chips (1/2 bag)

Bring the sugar and Karo syrup to a boil, then remove from the stove. Add the peanut butter, and mix well. Stir in the Rice Krispies. Pour the mixture into a greased (or sprayed with cooking spray) 9 x 13 pan. Combine the butterscotch and chocolate chips in a glass bowl. You can use a double boiler to melt them, or the microwave. Place the bowl in the microwave for 30 second intervals, stirring in between. It usually takes me about 1 minute total, to get them melted enough to spread. Be careful--they can scorch if in too long. Once it's melted, spread over the top of the Rice Krispie mixture. Chill until set, then cut into bars. Yum!

Tot School Day 1

Today I started something with Cohen that I hope to continue to do. I decided to print off some worksheets regarding the letter "A".

First I just had him color the sheets. Then we later went over the letter A and I gathered up all his toys that begin with A.

We also played with the A fridge magnet. He can now pick out "A" out of all the letters in the alphabet. I hope to do one letter a day, one number a day, etc. You get the point : )

Our culture is obsessed with beauty. We live in beautiful homes, design beautiful yards, drive beautiful cars, wear beautiful clothes, create beautiful faces, and marry beautiful people. You get the point...

And, I don't think there's a thing wrong with having or wanting beautiful things.
I remember a time, not so long ago, when I was obsessive about my weight, my hair, my nails, my makeup, my clothes. And, I'll be the first to admit that I'm still not going further than the mailbox without my eyeliner on.

But, the Lord has done a redeeming work in me in this area. 1 Peter 3 gives the best advice, "Don't be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. This is how the holy women of old made themselves beautiful". (1 Peter 3:3-5)

I don't think this verse insists that we be plain janes. However, I KNOW that it tells us to find our true beauty from our submission to our God.

Character Qualities

I stumbled upon this link the other day regarding operational definitions of character qualities especially in our children. I really liked the way each one was defined. Here are a couple of examples:

Contentment-realizing that God has provided everything I need for my present happiness.

Punctuality-Showing high esteem for other people and their time

Patience-Accepting a difficult situation from God without giving Him a deadline to remove it.

That is just a few...there are 49 of them. I just really think it makes you think of those words in a different way. Couldn't we all learn a little from some of these?!?! I know I could work on each one of those qualities in my daily life.

This past Thursday was very special for Cohen. He got to play hooky from Preschool and attend Praise and Worship at our church and then a Chuck E Cheese playdate with all of his friends. Here is picture overload :)

Needless to say, the Harris family enjoyed a long nap this day!

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.....

To you, this may just be a picture of bacon grease in a coffee mug, but to me, it was a smack in the face saying "you are your mother!" I love my mom dearly, I do. So to me this isn't really a bad thing. Over the years I have slowly started realizing things I do are just as my mom does! I remember as a kid my mom would always drain bacon grease in a coffee mug and set it on the sink. I did that on Sunday...




This brings me to other things I do just like my mom:

I love to plant flowers. In pots/baskets.

Anything I buy in a plastic container will go
right into a prettier dish (ex, fruit, butter, etc)



Real plants/flowers in the windowsill.



Always fresh flowers on the table,
always. No matter the season.

• I can't stand overhead lighting, lamps only. Zach calls me a vampire b/c he will turn them on and I go right behind him and shut them off and do a lamp instead.
• I must always have natural light in my home, first thing in the morning I open the shades in all the rooms and the front door to let light in.
  
• Make all the beds before I leave a room
• Loud car music hurts my ears (I SWORE I would never be like this!)
• I like classical and jazz music
• I wrap up bread in a napkin and put in a basket to put at the dinner table.
• We only use cloth napkins
• I don't use paper towels to dry my hands, only hand towels. Paper towels are pretty much decoration and can last me forever.

These are all things my mother does and I must admit as I was a child I always promised myself I would NEVER do half of them, and here I am....

I went to pick up Cohen from preschool today when one of the teachers said "you will never believe what Cohen said today!" Apparently in the middle of playtime Cohen walked up to his teacher and said "Ms. Sandy, I'm bored!" (probably more like "ms. andy, i bored"

Oh Cohen, how do you even know what bored is?!

Well, he's never said it around me, therefore I must be a really fun and entertaining mommy ; )

Ice Cold!

Today as I was preparing to make dinner Cohen was being, well Cohen... So I decided to do this....







I filled up two bowls full of water and put ice cubes in them. Then gave him a slotted spoon and told him to switch all the ice from one bowl to the other, this occupied him long enough for me to peel 8 potatoes : )

Fearless

We are currently living in a world of fear. Fear of flying, fear of terrorism, fear of H1N1, fear of what our children and grandparent will be exposed to, fear of not being loved, fear of loosing love, fear of not having health care coverage…and the list could go on. Max Lucado writes an extraordinary book that convicts his readers. In Fearless, Lucado uses scripture to expand on the fears that we have, from the single person to parents, from the aging to the young. The subtitle of this book is “imagine your life without fear.” We area all fearful in one area or another, and Lucado uses this book to point out areas that we may not realize we even have fear. Lucado points out that Fear is the direct opposite of love. Lucado uses clear and convicting language to address these issues of fear. He offers truth about the issues that we deal with and face. Lucado points the reader to scripture and our relationship with God to encourage us to let go of our fear, since perfect love drives out fear. Fear can be a strong hold in life. I highly recommend this book to everyone!!!!

Okay, sorry I guess I'm in school mode, writing a book review. :) Point is, it was a great book!

Cohen AND Caleb have really been showing their love for one another lately. Cohen is very concerned about his brother when he cries and Caleb will cry when Cohen leaves the room, and smiles when Cohen returns. Today I was putting away laundry in Caleb's room and I turned around and Cohen had climbed into the crib with "K-up". As concerned as I was that Cohen was going to break the crib I had to cherish the moment.

Cohen gave his brother all his stuffed animals.


Even gave him a kiss!
