Cohen's First Day

Of Classical Conversations was today! We couldn't be prouder : ) He did so well! He sat with his class for three hours, went over all subjects, even did art and a science project, AND gave a little "presentation". Presentations are big with CC, as it develops such a confidence in the children to get up and speak so they start it early. I have been practicing and encouraging Cohen all week that this was coming up and he kept saying "I'm not going up there, I'm going to be shy". And.. he did it, he went up there. Short, sweet, cute. It seems so little when you watch it but this was huge and I can see the fear in his eyes, he has never met these people and he was the only child with his mother not in the room (I tutor the 8 year old class, so this makes my heart just melt. The topics will change each week. I can't wait to see what he is like after 24 weeks of doing this! :) I lacked on pictures today, 3 children, 3 bags, 3 bookbags and 4 lunchboxs all had to be out of the door by 7:40. I got the basics though, picture of boys (sideways) and picture of miss p. It was a such a precious day to us. We are so excited about our upcoming school year. Now, our homeschooling at our kitchen table will start tomorrow. :)

2013 Fall Curriculum

This Monday we (I say we because Z is helping and so supportive) start Kindergarten with our sweet Cohen at home and then once a week we will meet at Classical Conversations, I will also be doing preschool with Caleb. I can't contain my excitement!! And Presley, will just, hang out with us :)

Here is the curriculum we plan to use this year. This of course is mainly for my records for what we are using each year, but feel free to read if you are interested.

CC is our main core this year as we will be doing our Science, Math, History, Latin, English, and Geography, and Timeline there. We still need to supplement in these areas at home. 

Math: Saxon K Primer
History: Story of the World
English: Five in a Row and alot of reading, and reading :)  Handwriting/Drawing: Read Write Now
Science: King Fishers Science Encylopedia, and lots of outdoor play ;)
Bible: Each week we will have a new memory verse that correlates with our unit studies. Also, Ephesians 6:1-24. 
 
Then of course lots of phonics, CC review, lapbooks and unit studies and trips to the library each week and fun educational stuff from the dollar tree!

Sounds like a lot but I have it broken down to about 2 hours a day minus our CC day, which is 3. A lot better then an 6 hour day if he were to go to school.

Please pray for us as we start our home school year. This is something Zach and I have been praying about and thinking through since before Cohen was even born. Now, its really happening and God was faithful to answer our prayers to make this happen.

Cohen says..

Behind the hyperness  Cohen is one of the sweetest boys I know...

Mommy: Cohen you better stop growing you are getting too big.

Cohen: Mom, I have to keep growing so I can get big and get married.... to you.

Mommy: Cohen you cant marry me, I am married to your daddy, God already has a wife for you day.

Cohen:  I have an idea, I'll marry you and daddy can still be married to you and then we can all live together when I'm older and you will have two husbands, and you will be my wife. I don't want any other wife, just you.

{Oh Cohen. Sweet, I guess :)  Ps. where does he learn this stuff? Maybe its just an excuse to stay home and never move out! Glad he loves me that much, this phase may not last long!

Speaking of Praise and Worship music, our church choir is now starting to practice for our Christmas program.

C.a.n.t w.a.i.t

The kids and I had a mini beach trip this past week when we went to visit my dad. We drove down to Nags Head for the day. 

My main beach kids: Cohen and PRESLEY! That girl, loves the water. 

This one, not so much, getting better though, he at least put his feet in the water this time

Z is taking the boys to see the movie "Planes" tonight. 

They are so excited :)

That was 7 on Friday instead of 5 on Friday, forgive me!

Not a Distraction

I am loving this little mohawk girl.

I am loving that one of our chickens is laying eggs now! 

We also found out that our other chicken is a rooster. A 5am wake up call won't be new to us. And now chicks could be in our near future, lets hope not though!

The boys, well mainly Cohen love to go collect the eggs!

The kids and I are loving breakfasts on the porch with daddy each morning before he goes to work.

I am loving that school starts in just a week and a half!

I am loving that the boys and I finally finished the book, Farmer Boy. It was such a good book and I'm glad I read it to the boys, I am glad they got a glimpse into what it was like back in that era of buggies, no electricity, the value of hard work, farm living, etc.. It was over 300 pages and we did a chapter a night at bed, so it took awhile to finish it. Next up, Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Speaking of the porch, I am loving that I turned our side porch into a little "school" area for when its nice outside we can do our work out there or the kids can color or do projects, eat lunches, etc. We have been playing on it everyday, I actually can sit in the rocking chairs and read while they play. :)  I am loving that I got this table from the church for $10 from the rummage sale! I knew it would come in good use!

I am also loving that our sweet Caleb is better, he was sick this past weekend but now he is back to himself :)

I am loving my Simplified Planner!!

My whole life is in this binder, from our daily schedule, calender, coupons, family information, contact information, homeschool papers for the new year, my homeschool planner, CC tutor stuff, everything :) I am loving it!

This sweet boy had to go to the doctor yesterday for an allergic reaction to a yellow WASP sting. Poor bud got stung about 6 times the other day.

(Z ended up finding a wasp nest under the table on our porch).

PJ and Caleb on Duke. He is such a great dog, he lets the kids jump on him, pull his face, anything really. He is so sweet to them regardless that he is 115 lbs! Presley is really starting to warm up to Duke and tries to ride him, she has even said dog and pointed to him.

Speaking of coffee.. Caleb loves to steal my coffee each morning.

Dress up with the kids. I was a transformer (I think). Whenever I put this on I chase the boys around and they just think its hilarious. Presley, doesn't.

I am so thankful for cameras/iphones/blogs these days to help document all the "little things" that happen during our week. I love looking back and what we did or were interested in.

  Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. 

But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm.

 But how can one be warm alone?

A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer.

Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

Quotes of the week, by the boys

This is the quote of the past few weeks actually!!! In reference to Presley, he just adores her and clearly thinks Miss P is his to take care of. He says this alllll the time. I caught him spanking her today saying "bad baby, you not listening to me, you went too far in the yard".
